I am sure you are wondering how Wendy's Misfits began and why the rescued animals are called Misfits. Our story began when we saved one neglected and emaciated dog which in turn quickly grew into something much bigger than I had ever imagined. We save the worst of the worst, hence the name misfits.  The dogs we typically save would be euthanized if they ever went to the shelter. Shelters typically will not go to great lengths to save an animal. They have too many animals brought in daily from animal control as well as surrenders. Rescues such as ours rely on donations and sometimes grants, when available, to help the animals we take in.  The animals we take in are vetted and spayed or neutered. If they have medical issues we do everything we can (within budget) to help them have a better quality of life and they are in foster homes until adopted. We have been blessed with amazing supporters and together this army is saving one misfit at a time! Our ultimate goal is to open up a second no kill shelter for Angelina County and bring awareness to the residents, many people don’t know that there are resources out there to help.
